{"id":1070,"date":"2021-12-16T20:57:07","date_gmt":"2021-12-16T20:57:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.eastcentral.edu\/board-policies\/?page_id=1070"},"modified":"2025-11-06T19:43:25","modified_gmt":"2025-11-06T19:43:25","slug":"drug-and-alcohol-abuse-prevention","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.eastcentral.edu\/board-policies\/student-services\/drug-and-alcohol-abuse-prevention\/","title":{"rendered":"3.25 Drug and Alcohol Abuse Prevention"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><em>(Reaffirmed 12-2-1992; Revised 11-5-2001, 12-6-2021)<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>91ԭƬ prohibits the manufacture, distribution, dispensation, possession, or use of a controlled substance or an imitation controlled substance and the possession, use, or distribution of alcoholic beverages (except as specified in Board Policy 4.31) on any ECC-owned or controlled property or at College-sponsored functions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Procedures<\/strong> <em>(Revised 5-12-2008, 12-6-2021)<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>3.25.1<\/strong> <strong>Definition:<\/strong> An imitation controlled substance is a substance that is not a controlled substance, which by appearance (including color, shape, size, and markings) or by representations made, would lead a reasonable person to believe that a substance is a controlled substance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>3.25.2<\/strong> Violations of this Policy will result in disciplinary actions, up to student expulsion, and may have legal consequences. Certain violations could result in the involvement of civil law enforcement authorities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>3.25.3<\/strong> The College complies with the requirements of the Drug-Free Schools and Communities Act Amendments of 1989 (20 U.S.C. \u00a7\u202f1011i) and the Drug-Free Workplace Act of 1988 (41 U.S.C.\u00a0\u00a7 8101 et seq.).\u00a0Although marijuana is legal in Missouri, it is still considered illegal under federal law as a \u201cSchedule I\u201d drug.\u202f As such, the distribution,\u202fpossession,\u202fand consumption of marijuana\u202fare prohibited on property owned or operated by the College or its affiliates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>3.25.4<\/strong> The College recognizes drug and alcohol abuse as a potential health, safety, and security problem and recognizes dependency as an illness for which there is effective treatment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Students needing help in dealing with such problems are encouraged to use the College&#8217;s counseling services for referral assistance for treatment centers.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>(Reaffirmed 12-2-1992; Revised 11-5-2001, 12-6-2021) 91ԭƬ prohibits the manufacture, distribution, dispensation, possession, or use of a controlled substance or an imitation controlled substance and the possession, use, or distribution of alcoholic beverages (except as specified in Board Policy 4.31) on any ECC-owned or controlled property or at College-sponsored functions.
